The Class of 1911 used the Royal Purple March as a fundraiser for their senior arch at Kansas State Agricultural College. George August Westphalinger, a retired chief musician for the United States Army who led the K-State College Band in 1909-1910 and 1910-1911, wrote the piece in 1911.
